More than 50 college coaches answered the question “What is the number one red flag in a recruit?”

The responses were very insightful, and somewhat repetitive. Later on in this chapter, I’ve listed all the coaches’ answers to this question. However, let’s look at the big picture first. I’ve summarized the sentiments from the coaches and grouped them into seven categories.

Red Flag Categories:

  1. Attitude and Behavior:

    • Bad attitude and bad manners

    • Disrespectful to others

    • Too cocky or arrogant

    • Making excuses and blaming external factors

    • Quitter mentality and lack of perseverance

    • Poor character or demeanor

    • Not enjoyable to be around
