We did this exercise last year as well. However, when crowning the rounds of the year for the 2023 season, we took the player score minus the overall field average. This year though, we’ve got a much more representative measure, in my opinion.
As you know, I’ve scraped all the data from this year (60,000+ lines of data), so we’re able to look at strokes to the field per division.
(I’ve also created a dashboard with the data which you can find HERE.)
BEST ROUNDS OVERALL
ULMO, Joachim (Gutter U15) - Asker Round 1 - 66 (-18.05)
JOHNSEN, Nora Sophie (Jenter U15) - Sandefjord Round 1 - 70 (-17.50)
ERLANDSEN, Gabriel (Gutter U15) - Drøbak Round 1 - 65 (-17.42)
WAHLUND, Fiona (Jenter U15) - Stavanger Round 3 - 71 (-17.25)
BRANDSÆTER, Markus (Gutter U15) - Drøbak Round 1 - 66 (-16.42)
All of these rounds were without a doubt amazing! Being under 15 and able to shoot those scores is remarkable. I had a 26 handicap at that age and probably wouldn’t break 100 on a National Tour like this!
However, the younger divisions have larger variance in their distribution of scores, as the level of play varies greatly. Therefore, the insane strokes to field (a full stroke per hole at the top end) is as much a function of the field average as it is these amazing rounds. Therefore, let’s look at the top five rounds broken down by division:
